Belgium is pretty much shut down today. It's Veteran's Day, and it's being honored. The kids are off school and Brian is off work, and our planned IKEA trip is postponed because, well, it's closed today. So nice to know that it's not just another excuse to have a big sale. This country has seen a lot of war over the years and it doesn't forget.
These pictures were taken in London last week at Westminster Abbey. All month long the British remember the fallen. Poppies are handed out and worn proudly, and memorials such as this are set up all around. You can learn more here about the significance of the poppy (I came across this when trying to explain it to the kids so it should be in very simple terms!)

Doubtful many are reading here but most of us at least know someone who has been a part of a war, either on the front lines or the home front. I know there are a few veterans who are reading, and to those, we appreciate you more than you know. And to those who have lost someone to a war, well, my heart goes out and know that your sacrifice will never be taken for granted.
