Sam's Show

Sam's school Christmas show was a few weeks back. His class of three and newly four year olds were assigned the roles of animals as seen in a nativity. Sam had the esteemed part of the Donkey. That seemed to fit. The kids practiced their songs for weeks and Sam often sang on the way to school. There are two classes with older kids at the school and they made up all the humans in the nativity. The oldest class went first, sang, and remained on stage, followed by the next oldest group. Sam's class was last, so behind them were all the other kids in the school that never see each other because they go at different times to share one classroom. Anyway, Sam walks out, tall and proud with his huge donkey ears. He notices the church is packed, but this doesn't bother him for a minute. He just can't stop staring at all the kids behind him. He has to ask them what character they are (he pronounces it ker-AC-ter). He finally joins in to sing "Away in the Manger" and has to loudly ask "Why do they call him Jesus". Just keep in mind that Sam is nearly a head taller than all the kids and was wearing enormous donkey ears. It was entertaining!
