Not bad for a free vacation!

Thank you, thank you Army (or should I say taxpayers?) for this wonderful weekend getaway!  We were fortunate enough to get a turn to go on a marriage retreat, kids and all!  Doesn't sound like much of a retreat now does it?  Well it was.  We did not eat a single meal with our children.  We didn't really see much of them at all, except for a lovely afternoon spent running around this grassy field, taking a nice hike and a little swimming.  Yep, free child care.  The kids thought that part was a little boring so there was a bit of guilt involved, but hey, it's not all about them now is it?  The only real price we had to pay was suffering through two hours of Kirk Cameron's acting.  Oh Fireproof, you had a beautiful message but the delivery was just a bit too heavy.  But, it really was a small price to pay for two nights with two rooms at a lodge in the Columbia River Gorge.  Oh, and it was Mother's Day weekend and seeing that we were only a quick jaunt to Portland we wrapped it up with a little book browsing and shoe shopping.  Brian got his Deschutes as well so all was good.

Seriously though, this is an incredible opportunity provided by the Chaplains on post.  Military families in this day and age endure more crap than many can imagine, and this is just a tiny reward for those that deal with long deployments.  I am not complaining about our situation, we made it though and it was only once, one year, and a good gig in the grand scheme of things.  But many are on their third or fourth deployment, and something like this is more than well-deserved.  Well done Army!

Life is good!

Modeling some of her crafty work from "camp".

Finishing up our race around the pond.  You rock boys!
